Decided to revisit this earlier image I had done of the Wexford starting lineup of the 1996 All-Ireland final. Laid out in their positions on the field, I just kept their features to the minimum. Each player is fairly distinguishable from the next; George O'Connor and Storey are instantly recognisable with their moustaches; Rod Guiney with his red hair; Gary Laffan with his nose strip; Liam Dunne and his bushy eyebrows and so on. I had tried various diffeernt coloured backgrounds but plain white seemed to bring the images out best.
One of the most iconic images in the GAA was that of George O'Connor, on his last hurrah in the 96 All-Ireland Final, falling to his knees to give thanks in Croke Park.
I took a piece from the late Tom William's poem and added the shadow of a 1798 pikeman.
Went back to the George O'Connor sketch and wanted to put it in colour.
George wore a yellow helmet when he finished up but in the old days he used to wear a black one and as this image is of a younger O'Connor, I coloured it black and gave him the old Wexford jersey.
